Welcome to Evanescent Visions Photography.  Here you will find an online gallery of many different colorful and intriguing photos of many different types.  I plan on emphasizing the motorsport type of photography, but shoot many other types as well.  Night photography, for example, is an exciting way to capture the beauty of the night.  I shoot around the full moon using only the available light (whether it be the moon or nearby illumination like street lamps) and sometimes a colored flash to emphasize certain elements of a scene.  It is a technique called "painting with light".  As I have said, I'm also learning motorsports photography and am greatly enjoying it.  I plan on going to as many motorsports events as I can in the near future.  I am using a  6.3 mega pixel digital SLR Canon Digital Rebel exclusively.  I also shoot alot of normal cars, car shows, ect. in my travels.  I plan on getting much more equipment in the near future to allow me to expand my skills.  My pictures are available for sale as prints here.  If you are interested in hiring me for a job, go here to contact me.  I also do alot of landscape work as well as black & white work in addition to other types of photography.

Update 10.07.08:  A ton of my night photography are now on display at Crema Coffee Roasting Company! It is located at:            950 The Alameda San Jose, CA 95126  Mon-Sun 7:00 a.m.-10:30 p.m. The photos will be on display for the entire month of October.

Update 01.14.08:  After an extremely long hiatus from updates... I'm back!  So much has happened in the year + since I've added any updates to this page... I have gone whole hog on the night photography, going out as much as possible, I bought a fisheye lens just for night shoots.  I've started creating a coffee table book of my night photography, and my biggest news... I got my first pro paid gig as a pro photog for Sony to document their booth at the Consumer Electronics Show 2008!  I was even able to buy my first pro glass for the event, the venerable Canon 70-200 f/4L IS lens!  I took many gigs of photos, so it will take a while for me to go through it all and get them up online, but I'll post links to them as I do.

Update 11.6.06: I admit it... I have been neglecting my website the last few months.  I've been obsessed with the great photo sharing community flickr.com.  I've met many local photographers through it, many of which are into night photography, and made a few friends as well.  You can see my flickr page at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gtifreak/  I've recently picked up a new infrared filter for my 10-22mm wide angle lens and went up to Golden Gate Park to try it out.  Check out my newly revised B&W and Infrared section to see the results.  I'll be doing alot more infrared shoots, so keep an eye out.  Also, take a look in my Night Photography section for a great set at the Byron Hot Springs Resort, an old abandoned hotel from the early 1900's.  Now that I have a group to go with, I'll be going out at night alot more often, hopefully getting seriously back into night photography.  Safety in numbers and all that jazz.

Update 02.14.06: I've finally gotten a chance to do some concert photography, something I've been wanting to try my hand at for a long time.  I shot my friend's band Lowest Common Denominator at Studio Z in San Francisco.  I had a blast watching them play and a great time shooting them.  See the gallery here.  I've also added a few recent pictures to the Landscapes gallery; one sunset and one shot of the interior of the mall in San Francisco with the curving escalators.  I also finally got around to doing a self portrait using a few different techniques to get the look I want.  Look for that in Black and Whites.

Update 01.20.06: Sorry, it's been a bit longer than I intended to update the page, but better late than ever, eh?  I've had the Canon 10-22mm lens for almost a month now and I love it!  It's definitely my favorite lens. Very sharp and a very good quality lens overall.  I have alot of ideas and concepts in mind with it.  I was able to test it extensively at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and I must say.. I'm extremely impressed. I have a few galleries up mostly taken by the 10-22 here and here, so check them out.  I also picked up that Speedlight 550EX flash I wanted... yet more doors opening, horizons widening, and potential for experimentation with this flash. I'm also getting into the film side of things as my grandfather's antique camera has been located and I'm now learning how to use a fully manual camera with no meter.  It's all about trial and error and burning through many rolls of film.  Along the film train of thought, I'm thinking about picking up a Holga camera.  A holga camera is a cheap plastic "toy" camera that is prone to light leaks, poor plastic lenses and controls that are iffy at best.  It sounds like a horrible camera, and it is, but that's kind of the point... it's a very pure form of photography, filtered down to it's very essence.  The thing that is so magical about it is it has a very unique look... you know a picture was taken by a holga immediately. I've found a trick in photoshop that one can use to make pictures emulate the look of a holga camera, and I've done it to a few of my pictures.  They can be viewed here.  Check back soon to see some of my film work!

Update 12.24.05: I finally got a wide angle lens! I ordered a Canon 10-22mm EF-S lens from Adorama fully expecting it not to come until after Christmas, but I got it today!  BIG thanks to everyone for the great birthday gift!!  I'll also be ordering an awesome flash, the Canon 550EX after Christmas.  Hopefully with this combination of equipment, I'll be able to get some more kick ass freestyle shots.  The lens will also be great for rig shots, landscapes, and night photography.  I'll be going to Monterey the end of next week and will be trying for more night shots so be sure to check back then.  In the meantime, I've created a gallery of test shots of the wide angle lens, click here to check it out.

Update 12.12.05: I got out to Santa Cruz this weekend to shoot some of my friends freestyle mountain bike jumping!  Check out the insane air they got under Transportation!

Update 10.24.05: It's been quite a while since I've updated my site, and I've got alot to update!  I've added a couple LeMans races to my Automobiles gallery, I've added a few more animals (puppies!) to my Animals gallery, as well as I took a trip to the SF Zoo this past weekend, so I'll be adding those pictures as I get them edited.  I put a folder specifically for the zoo pictures in my Animals gallery for easy viewing.  Also added is a macro shot I took of my wonderful fiancée's ring for her birthday.  Be sure to check out the Landscape section, there's a few new pictures in there as well.  Check out the Car Shoots section to see new pictures of a supercharged VW GTI.   And for the last update, visit the Night Photography section to view a recent shoot I did at the Stanford Cactus Garden!

Update 06.12.05: Animals gallery updated!  Some of the local wildlife around my house, a butterfly and a few birds who've nested in our porch!

Update 04.03.05:  I did my first major shoot for VWVortex.com!  I shot my friend's VW Caddy for a feature car article, and they published it on their website yesterday!  Click here to see the article in it's entirety.  I'm pretty excited, the entire VW community across America sees it.  I've been really busy shooting cars- I've done 7 car shoots in the last month!  I've also added a car shoots gallery to this page. Feel free to check em out!  I've been experimenting with rigs and rig shots alot as well.  A few friends are helping me build a custom rig that I can use to get the entire car in the picture and get some great results.  Look for examples in the Car Shoots gallery.

Update 02.19.05:  I may have a line on doing a feature car shoot for a major  automotive website!  More info as details solidify and develop!

Update 02.13.05:  It's been quite a while since I've updated this, I've been slackin I know.  I did a bit of rearranging and changed my galleries from HTML based to Gallery software based.  It makes it alot easier to add new pictures and move stuff around.   BIG thanks to Andrew for setting that up for me. :-)  I haven't been shooting much else than automotive stuff lately, been trying to get a portfolio together for submission to some car tuner magazines.  I've gotten some new lenses and filters and they've helped the end result tremendously.  Also, I will be going to Tahoe in a few weeks and will hopefully be getting a bunch of good landscape shots from that.

Update 12.26.04:  I got a bunch of goodies for Christmas!!  I got a new Lowepro camera backpack that's big enough to hold two camera bodies, all my equipment and a laptop.  When I opened the backpack I found a new 50mm fixed lens hidden inside it! I also got a circular polarizing filter for shooting cars, a 512 ultra II compact flash card, and a pcmcia compact flash reader for my laptop.

Update 9.10.04:  I went to the first day of Cart racing at Laguna Seca yesterday and have added a section for it in my Automobiles gallery as well as a link to the ALMS race I went to last month.

Update 8.19.04:  So.. I start my class tonight.
I'm finally going back to school for the first time since I graduated high school back in '96. I'm taking a digital photography class at my local community college. I've been getting more and more nervous as the days go by. I guess it's a bit of that whole "fear of the unknown" thing. I am extremely excited, I'll be learning about a thing I love, photography, so that helps some. Hopefully this class will inspire me to get out shooting more. I find I always do better/more art when I'm surrounded by similar minded people. I think this will do very well for me. I need to concentrate on getting exposure and composition down. I am still having trouble with it, but I think this class will go a long way towards alleviating that. Wow, only six and a half more hours to go and I start a new path in my life. Wish me luck!!

Update 8.06.04:  I went to the American Lemans Series at Infineon Raceway and got some great results from it.  I'll be adding a whole additional gallery section specifically for Motorsports Photography when I have time to work on it.  I'll be attending a bunch more races with in a few months, so check back often.

Update 7.23.04:  Just got home from a looooong day at the races and I am exhausted!!  I got some incredible shots from this new lens!  I am extremely impressed by it's performance for such a cheap lens.

Update 7.19.04:  I got my 75-300mm Canon lens today!!  I can finally get some practice in on motorsports photography with my own camera!  I'll be going to the LeMans races this weekend so look forward to seeing some results for that soon.
